He served in the Spanish-American War as a Private of Co H, 2nd Regt. WV infantry. He enlisted at Kingwood WV June 29, 1898 and served until his death.

George was a miner at the time of enlistment. He never married.

George died of typhoid fever at Camp Meade, PA Fort Meade was a replacement for Camp Alger in VA which had a growing Typhoid Fever Epidemic.

Apparently the fever came with the people.

Camp Meade was only open 1898-1899. Long enough to infect people and then they died.

The article means Tunnelton. I suspect that George was buried in Shays Chapel Cemetery in Newburg, Preston Co., WV. His father had been buried there as would his mother be buried there in 1910.

Unfortunately there seem to be at least two #'s on FAG for George.
This is the correct one
His father Harrison Hoffman # 150031947
His mother Susan Virginia (Hillard) Hoffman # 155020816
