Eldon D. Cadwalader, 83, of Bushnell, passed away at 6:39 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at McDonough District Hospital.

He was born in rural Marietta on April 18, 1929, to Garret A. and Creta G. Reneau Cadwalader. He married Bonnie J. Warner in Good Hope on Sept. 30, 1950.

Eldon is survived by his wife Bonnie of Bushnell; two sons, David L. (Rhonda) Cadwalader of Bushnell and Dale E. Cadwalader of Glenview; two grandchildren, Ron D. (Morgan) Cadwalader and Davann L. Cadwalader; and two great-grandchildren, Hayden O. Cadwalader and Kellan R. Cadwalader. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Robert E. Garrison. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Eldon attended Marietta Grade School, Cuba High School and Bushnell High School, where he graduated from in 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1947 to June 1950 and later served in the reserves from September 1951 to September 1955.

He attended Community Church in Marietta, the Methodist Church in Walnut Grove and joined the Bushnell United Methodist Church in December 1950.

He was a 50-year member to the T.J. Pickett Masonic Lodge in Bushnell, the Lamoine Valley Promenaders, the Peoria Magicians Association and the North American Association of Ventriloquists.

He was employed at Vaughan & Bushnell Mfg.

Co. from October 1950 until June of 1991. His hobbies included following his grandchildren in sports events, maintaining real estate properties, following the stock market, square dancing and performing ventriloquism with Snuffy, Jake, Grandpa, and an assortment of figures.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012, at the Bushnell United Methodist Church, where Pastor Trisha Chapman will be officiating.

Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the time of services on Sunday. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services at the church. Family will greet friends and celebrate his life in the church basement following the services.
