DON POWELL, 21, ELECTROCUTED IN FRIDAY MISHAP

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at First Baptist Church for Don L. Powell, 21, who was electrocuted Friday afternoon on East Broadway.

The youth, who had been working for Martin Sign Company only a short time, was in a truck which was backing near a high line on East Broadway while erecting a new sign at the Vandervoort Creamery and Ice Cream Plant. Somehow the high line was contacted and Powell was electrocuted when he grasped a cable. He was dead on arrival at Sweetwater Hospital. The accident happened about 2:40 p.m.

Powell was a veteran of World War II, having served in the military police in Germany for 16 months after the war. He was born in Roscoe and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Powell, who live at 1411 Walnut Street.

The Rev. George R. Wilson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated for the funeral service. Burial was in the Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of Wells Funeral Home.

Surviving in addition to the parents are four brothers: Charles, Kenneth, Jim and Roland Powell, and a sister, Opal Powell, all of Sweetwater.
