Dewey C. Mongold, 62, Former Muncie resident, who lived in rural Mitchell, died Monday in Bedford Medical Center, Bedford.
He was born in Limestone, Tenn. He was retired from Warner Gear Division (now Borg Warner Automotive Transmission Systems). More recently he owned and operated Mongold Apple Orchard near Mitchell.
He was a member and deacon of Spice Valley Baptist Church near Mitchell. Mr. Mongold was preceded in death by his first wife, Arleen Moorehead Mongold, in 1979.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Robertson Mongold, a son, Gerry, Muncie, three brothers, David and Orville, both of Muncie, and William of Huntington, his mother, Addie Mongold, Aetelanta, Calif.; a daughter Linda Landlois, Summerville, S.C.; seven sisters, Geraldine Stidham, Imogene Smith, and Phyllis Smith all of Muncie, and Sylvia Ross, Ann DeSpain, Sandy Scott and Mauvelene Richardson, all of Calif. five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Spice Valley Baptist Church, with burial in Spice Valley Cemetery. Calling hours at Haverty Mortuary in Mitchell are after noon today.
