Mrs. Michael O'Neil, who lived many years on a farm southeast of Whiting, until the death of her husband, died Friday night at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Wm. O'Neil, in Wichita. Mrs. O'Neil was well up in the eighties and since the death of her husband had made her home with her son, William, who was indulgent in the extreme to her every wish and want. The son died in December and since that time she had been with her daughter-in-law. His death was a crushing blow to Mrs. O'Neil. The deceased was born in Ireland. She and the late L. Griffin of Effingham were playmates in the old country. After landing in this section the families became fast friends and often times the young people of each family have exchanged visits. Before their marriages, the O'Neil children often visited too, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Small, in Effingham. The O'Neils were well to do people. The body arrived in Effingham Tuesday night and was taken to the Mrs. Ellen Griffin home. Services were conducted Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from the Catholic church and the remains interred beside those of her husband who died several years ago. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joe Cruise , of near Horton, and Mrs. Henry Smith, of Severy. Mrs. Smith and her son Wm. of Wichita, accompanied the remains to Effingham. Mrs. Cruise was ill with the flu and unable to attend. Mr. Cruise and the daughter Mrs. Belden, of Horton; Mr. and Mrs. Harris Gordon and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fiester, of Whiting attended the services. Mr. Fiester and Mrs. Gordon were grandchildren of the deceased. E. J. Kelly, James Farrell, Martin McAuliffe, T. J. Gerety, John and Roger Sullivan, old time friends of the family were pall bearers.
