Willie L. Alford, 83, of Kountze died May 5 at Kountze Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at the Willie L. Alford Auditorium at Kountze Junior High School with burial at Old Hardin Cemetery. A native of Palestine, he lived in Kountze many years and was a Kountze Independent School District teacher and a retired principal and was one of the best football coach in the area. He was also a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. Survivors include his wife, Opal Alford of Kountze; son, Andy Alford of Kountze; stepdaughters, Linda Bumstead and JoAnn Whisenhant, both of Kountze; stepson, William E. Gates of Mr. Grove, Missouri; brother, Elward Alford of Palestine; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren
