MARTIN, William J., 89, of Roanoke, formerly of Thaxton, died Friday morning, May 26, 1995, in a local hospital. Mr. Martin was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Bedford. He was retired from Burlington Industries. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mattie S. Martin; son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Betty S. Martin, Thaxton; daughters and sons-in-law, Vilma M. and Wilburn B. Graves, Mechanicsville, Frances M. and Gilbert A. Wright, Lynchburg, Norma Jean and John Markey, Roanoke; brothers, Floyd Martin, High Point, N.C., Roy Martin, Carthage, N.C.; sister, Mrs. Flora Bell Carlton, Spartanburg, S.C.; five grandsons, two granddaughters and 13 great-grandchildren. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Kathy Markey, David Markey and Lisa Wright. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 1995, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. T he Rev. John D. Cochran will officiate. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. As Mr. Martin requested his body was donated to scientific study.
