John J. Totski, 85, of Vandling and formerly of Simpson, died Thursday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife, the former Mary Anne Bednarczyk, died in 2000. Born in Mayfield, he was the son of the late John and Anna Ostrowski Totski. He was a graduate of Mayfield High School and then served in the Army. He retired as a corrections officer at Farview State Hospital, Waymart. John was a member of St. Michael's Church, St. Rose Parish, Simpson. He was also a member of St. Michael's Holy Name Society. John loved children and treasured spending time with his own children and grandchildren. He passed away peacefully on what would have been his 60th wedding anniversary, to meet Mary Anne and dance a polka in heaven. The family would like to thank the following local businesses and their staffs that brought joy to John's life: Trichilo's Convenient Market in Simpson, Pinky's Restaurant in Carbondale and especially Frank's Place in Simpson. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Larry and Joseph; and a sister, Rose Saltisiak. The funeral will be Monday from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson. Interment will be with military honors in St. Michael's Cemetery, Simpson. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.
