Jon Dwight Austin, age 68, of Colchester, CT died Tuesday, November 17, 2015 while visiting family near Rice Lake, WI.

He was born on September 6, 1947 in Prairie Farm, WI to Kenneth and Margaret (McKee) Austin. He spent his early years on a small dairy farm in the Town of Arland. Jon graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1965. In 1967 he entered the United States Army and served until 1970 when he was honorably discharged. He served during the Vietnam Era. Jon attended UW Barron County Campus from 1970 - 1971 and focused his studies on psychology and philosophy. Jon was married to Mary Antenne on June 11, 1977 on Lac Courte Oreilles, WI. Jon worked for Zimpro as a water reclamation specialist for 18 years and then for the Town of Vernon, CT for 25 years. He retired in January 2015. Jon was also a literacy volunteer for a number of years working with adults teaching them to read and write. He was kind and compassionate and the people loved working with him. Jon had a love of big engines, hot cars, big dogs, traveling and reading good science fiction books. He read the entire collection of the Dune books. He also loved his farm and the back woods on the Colchester property and enjoyed the social events when his wife would show her horse. Jon was a marvelous cook, enjoyed a good party and had a love of music and sound systems.

Jon Austin is survived by his wife, Mary Austin of Colchester, CT; a brother, Bill (Linda) Austin of Sarona, WI; 2 sisters, Sharon Cutsforth of Springfield, OR and Karen Lewis of West Bend, WI; a brother-in-law, Gerry (LuEtta) Antenne of Rice Lake, WI; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Margaret Austin.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, November 27, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, WI, where Military Rites will be accorded him by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 AM Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
