Former Kentucky Baptist Convention President dies.
Rev. Dr. John C. Huffman of Louisville died Sunday, Nov. 22, in Louisville. He was 95.
Huffman was born July 15, 1920, in Henry County, Tenn., the son of James C. and Mattie Huffman. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister Elizabeth Vance, of Hazel, Ky., and his twin brother, James D. Huffman, of Paris, Tenn.
After graduating from Henry County, Tenn., High School, Huffman attended Memphis State University and received his bachelor's degree from Union University, Jackson, Tenn. He received a master's degree from Southern Theological Seminary in Louisville and an honorary doctorate from Georgetown (Ky.) College.
Huffman was ordained at First Baptist Church, Paris, Tenn., in 1941 and served churches in Owensboro, Ky., and Gallatin, Tenn., before moving to Mayfield, Ky, where he was pastor of First Baptist Church from 1954 until 1979.
In 1955 Huffman represented his church at the Baptist World Congress in London. He later served as President of the Kentucky Baptist Pastors Conference and President of the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
During his time as a pastor, Huffman spoke at numerous conferences and was an evangelist at churches in a dozen southern states.
Huffman leaves his wife, Ann McGehee Huffman and four children; Beth (Don) Nicholas of Sanford, Fla.; Mark (Luci) Huffman of Richmond, Va.; Melany (Dean) Schlader and Ron (Laurie) McGehee, both of Louisville, Ky; and eight grand children and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. To 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at Pearson's Funeral Home, Louisville. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, November 28, at Broadway Baptist Church, Louisville, with Dr. Chris Caldwell and Rev. Randy Rains leading the service.
Pall Bearers are Mark Huffman, Ron McGehee; Dean Schlader;Trey McGehee; Chase McGehee; Mason McGehee. Jillian Schlader will escort group.
Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville.
