Remember him…and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. - Ecclesiastes 12:6-7
Paul Michael “Mike” Bishop, age 78, of Long Beach, passed from this life to a life eternal on November 14, 2015.
His family is thankful for the many ways God purposed and used his life. To know Mike, you were blessed by his kind mannerism, his humble and non-assuming spirit, who shared a love for others. Mike never met a stranger, and found great delight in visiting and storytelling. Mike’s commitment to family kept him serving, growing and giving with a steadfast and loyal love. He had an appetite for learning, through books and particularly events of history, as well as for his wife’s cooking. He expressed his joy of life through football and the many years he spent dancing with his life partner, Isabelle. He found his place of calm and peace from sharing life on the Coast, as it included much time on the water fishing, shrimping on “the Nina”, and oystering. Mike was a lifelong resident of the coast and retired from the USDA in Gulfport after 30 years of service. After retirement, he owned and operated PM Enterprises. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Bishop, Sr. and Sarah Bishop, his siblings, John, Gordon, and Floyd Bishop, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Isabelle Rosetti Bishop, his children, Paul Michael (Melanie) Bishop, Jr., Barbara (Scott) Lemon, and Tony Vincent (Penny) Bishop, 7 grandchildren, Christine, Cathryn, Michael, Sara, Meghan, Lauren, and Tony Vincent, Jr., 1 great-grandchild, Charlie, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 19, 2015, from 10 am – 12 noon at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 East Beach Blvd., Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon in the church.
Memorials may be sent to St. Thomas Catholic Church or one’s favorite charity.
