Val V. Yankowy, 82, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
Val was born in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, to the late William & the late Julia Yankowy. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. Val became a firefighter in Louisville and served on Engine #5, and later in life, retired as sergeant of Louisville Fire Department, Engine #8.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Sis., daughter, Viviane, granddaughter, Dena, and great-grandson, Cody.
Those left to cherish Val's memory, include his wife, Shirley Downs Yankowy; children, Steve (Lisa), Gloria (Donnie) Goodwin, Glenn, Lisa (Belinda), Denise (Donnie) Roberson, Mike (Kris) Downs and Kelli (Bryan) Volpert; siblings, William, Betty and Mary; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many family and friends.
A celebration of Val's life will be conducted at 12 pm, Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky.
Guests are invited to attend a visitation, at the funeral home, on Friday, November 27, 2015, from 3-8 pm and Saturday from 10 am until time of service.
Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens, Mt. Washington.
