Martha "Emma" Stephenson and Reuben Rodgers Hodge were married Dec 27 1866 in Jacksons River, Bath County, Virginia
Their son William Oscar Hodge was informant on her death certificate. He stated she was a widow when she died, this would make Reuben's death before 1918.
Her middle name has been transcribed as Emaline and Ematine. The facts are no one should trust a death certificate or the spellings on census records.

On June 19th an 20th ,of 1900 widow Emma is living with daughter Susan Donovan and her family, son Oscar is also living there. The census taker was confused and put her age at 45 and born May 1855,when it is actually 55 years old and born May 1845.The census taker also wrote her name as Susan, she is listed correctly as the mother-in-law to the head of house and her and Oscars' last names are correct.
By the above date it can be assumed that Reuben died between Jan 1st and June 18th of 1900.
