Esther L. Westendorf, 99, of South Haven died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Riverview Nursing Home in Ann Arbor, Mich.
She was born March 11, 1907, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Emma (Wenzel) and Karl Schaewe.
Esther married Wynfred Westendorf on Aug. 29, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wis. She worked as a clothing clerk at Fischels Style Shop in South Haven from 1957 to 1992. Esther was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven. Her husband, the Rev. Wynfred Westendorf, served as pastor of St. Paul from 1940 to 1967. Esther enjoyed reading, cooking and crocheting.
She is preceded in death along with her parents by her husband, Wynfred Westendorf; a sister, Elnora Davidson; and three brothers — Arthur, Walter and Elmer Schaewe.
She is survived by three children — James J. (Jean) Westendorf of Maquon, Wis., Judith D. (Gregory) Smith of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Margaret Ann (Ernst) Wendland of Zambia, Africa; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, Aug. 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran School at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Balza officiating. Burial will take place in North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod World Missions, Zambian Field.
