RALEIGH -- Susan G. Womble, age 96, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Mayview Convalescent Center. She was born on April 27, 1906 to Viola Provost Womble and William Gurney Womble. Susan was a graduate of Saint Mary's College in 1926 and from Duke University in 1930. Additionally, she received her master's degree from the University of North Carolina in 1942. She taught school for many years and was a retiree of North Carolina Employment Security Commission. Susan was a lifetime member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Susan is survived by her brother, David A. Womble, Sr. and wife, Eloise; and her nieces and nephews, Rebecca Morvil (David), Brookshire Wynne McDonald, Jane MacLeod (Douglas), Carol Allman (Ken), Susan Brown (James), Milton Haynes (Chase), David VanSleen (Yvonne), Robert Wynne, III (Margaret), Robert Besserer, Jr. and David Womble, Jr. (Carolyn). Geri Haynes, former niece-in-law, also survives her. Susan was predeceased by her sisters, Ruth E. Womble, Sara W. Haynes, Clara W. Lovett, R. Elizabeth Womble, Mildred W. VanSleen, Marion W. Wynne, Jane W. Besserer and her brother, William G. Womble, Jr. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003 in the parlor of Edenton Street United Methodist Church with the funeral service starting at 2:00 p.m. in the Joseph G. Brown Chapel. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. According to her wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorials to any fund at Edenton Street United Methodist Church, 228 West Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC 27603 will be greatly appreciated.
