Thomas Quirk, DDS came in 1907 from Butte, Montana to Calgary, Alberta (approximate population 15,000 at the time) and practised the new method known as "painless dentistry".

Dr. Quirk was killed instantly when the car he was driving struck a horse pulling a street cleaning cart. He was survived by his wife and two sons.

His is the only mausoleum in the large Union Cemetery.

It was reported some years ago that someone broke into Dr. Quirk's mausoleum and stole his skull. The skull was recovered a few months later when police found it decorating the mantel of a person who was being investigated on an unrelated charge.
