Children's Deaths Investigated

Waukee, Iowa - State and local authorities have opened an investigation into the deaths of two children who had been treated at a "natural healing" clinic. "We have to determine if there was negligence and at this point we don't know', said Gerald Shanahan, chief of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Assistant County Attorney, John Powell, with the assistance of the sheriff's office, spent most of yesterday questioning the operators of the Centres for Natural Healing in Waukee, about 15 miles west of Des Moines.

Julie Mueller, 7, of Whitelaw, Wisconsin, died Saturday in her parent's motel room in nearby Adel after she had been treated at the clinic for a kidney disorder. David Jenkins, 9, of Newton, died at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines Sunday, following an emergency helicopter ambulance flight from the clinic. He was suffering from cystic fibrosis. Wooters said the boy had been able to move on his own power before he was given electro-shock therapy, reportedly not unusual treatment for cystic fibrosis. He stopped breathing during the treatments.

August, 1980 newspaper have follow up articles that the clinic founder was being investigated for falsely promising cures. A total of three people died but I could not find any final result of the investigation.
