Bernice Flannery, of Flourtown, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016, after a brief illness. She recently celebrated her 95th birthday. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Edward Flannery, her son Edward Flannery, Jr., her sister Claire A. Kohler, and her brother August J. Kolbe, Jr. She is survived by her children: Eileen M. Hartnett (Michael J., deceased) of Wilmington, Delaware; Rosemary A. Flannery of Bend, Oregon, Brian E. Flannery (Beth Ann P.) of San Diego; Michael E. Flannery (Beverly S.) of Hilltown Township, Pennsylvania; Douglas J. Flannery (Elaine M.) of North Wales, Pennsylvania; and Denise C. Flannery, of Philadelphia; her grandchildren: Kelly E. Leifheit (Lawrence J.) of Philadelphia; Steven M. Flannery (Kelly J.) of Perkasie, Pennsylvania; Nicholas M. Flannery (Heidi S.) of Flourtown, Pennsylvania; Erik Lindsey of Nashville, Tennessee; Bridget A. Flannery of San Diego; Kevin D. Flannery of Philadelphia; Gregory B. Flannery of San Diego; and Caitlin E. Flannery of North Wales; and her great grandchildren, Breck E. and Trey M. Flannery, both of Perkasie.

Bernice was a longtime resident of Flourtown. She lived on West Valley Green Road for more than 70 years. She lived there as a child before the Great Depression and returned in 1950 with her family to live in the house her husband built. She lived there until she was 90. She graduated with honors from Hallahan High School, Philadelphia, in 1938. While in high school, she worked at her father's real estate company. After graduating, she worked as an Executive Assistant at an advertising agency. She met her future husband Edward in 1937. Shortly after their July 1942 wedding, Edward went to war, serving in the European Theater from 1942 to 1945.

An inaugural parishioner of Saint Genevieve's, Bernice was active in many parish ministries, including choir, library, school field trips, and fundraising drives, including the Annual Saint Genevieve's Carnival. She was also a member of a local Choraleers choir, bringing comfort and joy in song to the sick and elderly. She was a published poet.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10 AM at St. Genevieve's Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, Pennsylvania.
