James "Jim" F McMahon, age 73, died peacefully after a short illness on November 28, 2015 with the love of his life, his wife of 37 years, Elaine, by his side.

Jim spent his last Thanksgiving with the people nearest and dearest to him, his beloved wife Elaine, his daughter Kathleen Mortimer, his son Michael McMahon, and his two grandchildren, Emilie and Claire Mortimer.

Jim is also survived by his older brother Paul McMahon of Weymouth, MA, his sister Mary J Boyle and her husband Bob of Saugus, MA and his sister Virginia and her husband Barry of Norwell, MA.

He is preceded in death by his father, James A McMahon and his mother, Mary (Mae) McMahon.

Jim was loved and will missed by his family, old friends and colleagues, and so many in his community of Newport, NH where he has resided for over 30 years.

Jim grew up in South Boston, MA. He graduated from Boston College. Jim swept Elaine off her feet back in 1978 at a dance. He knew on that first night, she was the “one” and told her he was going to marry her! They were married in 1979.

They shared a dream of living in the mountains and together sought out the perfect spot to live out this dream. They settled on 123 acres overlooking the mountains. Together they designed their post and beam home. This was Jim’s favorite place to spend his days. For what some might deem a chore, Jim enjoyed. He enjoying and took great pride over the transformation, maintenance, and improvements to his land. He built a 400 foot rock wall himself using stone from the land; he surveyed and placed each stone in just the right place. Jim cleared several walking trails through the forest, he bush hogged his field, he cleared space in the forest, using the wood to heat their home. He developed the land into a certified tree farm, Maple Trails Farm.

Jim will be remembered as a person who made you feel special just being with him. He had a passion for his family and loved unconditionally. He enjoyed visits with his children and grandchildren at his house, playing cards, laughing, spending time on his land, and eating moose tracks ice cream. He enjoyed engaging with all people and a good debate. He had a passion for learning and had many interests. He made sure to do his homework to fuel his debates on American history, the state of American politics, the constitution, and healthy living. Jim took pleasure winning at chess and playing cribbage.

He also found solace attending mass at St. Patrick’s each week. His family and friends will always remember him as a jovial, intelligent, witty, engaging, person with whom you felt lucky and privileged to spend time.

Burial is in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
