Jim was born in Peach Orchard, Arkansas on Thursday, October 12th, 1944, son of the late Woodrow "Cecil" and Eveline Stout Stevens. Jim moved to Muncie, Indiana at the age of 17 and had been an Albany, Indiana resident since 1970.
Jim led a life of service. As an independent contractor, he contributed to numerous community landmarks such as the Muncie bypass and several Ball State buildings. Jim was a successful and devoted independent truck driver, accumulating over two-million miles and almost as many friends along the way. Since 2005, he worked for Carter Express in Anderson, Indiana and considered the company as an extended family. Jim has worked his entire life. Apart from truck driving, he enjoyed remodeling and working around the house. However, Jim's most important work came as a papaw. The support and love he gave will always be remembered and cherished.
Jim was survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Donna Stevens; two sons, Rodney (and Janet) Stevens and Dewayne (and Lisa) Stevens; two daughters Vickie Ann (and Joe) Stone and Julie Cline; three brothers, Sam Stevens, Don (and Betty) Stevens, and Gary (and Marie) Stevens; one sister, Brinda (and Richard) Brown; eleven grandchildren, Melissa (and Drew), Kyle, Brian (and Amy), Adam (and Alicia), Jennifer (and Tim), Steven (and Hannah), Ashley Joanna, Ashley Marie, Nathan, Tyler (and Heather), and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren, Elaina, Madisyn, and Ethan; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Stevens, who departed this life on September 1st, 1978 and Eveline Stevens, who departed this life on February 25th, 1994; and his mother-in-law, Elaine Galloway Kinnett, who departed this life on November 4th, 2004.
Visitations were held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4th, 2015 and again one hour prior to funeral services on Saturday at Meacham Funeral Service in Albany, Indiana.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 5th, 2015 in the Chapel of the Meacham Funeral Service with Pastor Glenn Greiner of the Union Chapel Ministries officiating.
His pallbearers were his two sons, Rodney and Dewayne and four of his grandsons, Kyle, Nathan, Tyler, and Nicholas.
Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana.
