HERSHEY, RICHARD CHARLES

Richard Charles Hershey passed away July 12, 2011. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, January 10, 1922, the son of Frances Ashdown and Charles Corrington Hershey. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Signal Corp, U.S. Army, from 1942-1946, in Africa, Sicily and Italy, receiving a Purple Heart for wounds incurred during action in northern Italy. A graduate of Ohio University, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He later attended John Marshall Law School in Cleveland. Mr. Hershey retired from 3M after 31 years, and later was associated with Warehouse Equipment and Supply, and Young and Vann Supply, retiring in 1990. He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Charles Corrington Hershey, and his sister, Lois Hershey Schroeder. He is survived by his wife Patricia McGauly Hershey, his sons, Dr. Jonathan Richard Hershey (Paula), Jeffrey Barton Hershey (Kim) and Christopher Jordan Hershey (Fran), and his grandchildren, Daniel Ryan (Sarabeth), Patricia Lauren, James Corrington, and Parker Jordan Hershey. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15 at Independent Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. In his memory, he would have appreciated a donation to the Children's Fresh Air Farm, c/o Independent Presbyterian Church, 3100 Highland Avenue, Birmingham, 35205, or to the charity of your choice.
