BETTENDORF — A. Louise Eubank Henry, 92, of Bettendorf, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at her home. Services in celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 14th and Brady streets, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport, and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. A. Louise Eubank was born Feb. 3, 1923, to John Marion Eubank and Iva Campbell Eubank in Jasper County, Iowa. Louise received her early education in the Mingo (Iowa) Consolidated Schools, graduating in 1940. She then attended Iowa State College with a major in home economic education. She taught in her hometown for two years while taking additional courses at Iowa State in the summer months. In September 1946, she moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to teach at the University of Manitoba in the textiles and clothing department. After a few years, Louise returned to the States, and she then taught at Nebraska State Teachers College in Peru, Neb.

It was in Nebraska that she met Marion “Hank” Henry. After their initial meeting, they discovered they both enjoy dancing, and they spent much of the courtship driving to Omaha and Lincoln, Neb., to the open-air ballrooms to dance to the big bands of the day. They married on Aug. 24, 1951, at the Collegiate Methodist Church in Ames, Iowa, where they both returned to continue their education. In the fall of 1952, they had depleted their savings, and they moved to Davenport to teach in the Davenport Community School District. Louise taught at Davenport Central High School and, after 20 years, she ended her career in teaching to spend more time with her family and to be a full time homemaker.

Louise enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading and being a mother to their two daughters. She was also actively involved at St. John’s United Methodist Church, where she was a member for 63 years. Earlier in their marriage, the family traveled to many interesting destinations in the U.S. in a camper enjoying the beauty of this land. Later, they had numerous trips abroad and cruises as a family to create wonderful memories and an appreciation of other countries and cultures.

During her membership at St. John’s, she served in a number of capacities, and she was also a member of the 49ers Sunday school class and United Methodist Women. Louise was also a member of Club of ’89 Book Club, Chapter IC of PEO Sisterhood, Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society and the Davenport Area Retired School Personnel Association. She and Hank were also longtime members of the Varsity Dinner Dance Club.

Surviving Louise, in addition to her husband, are their two daughters, Alison Henry, Zurich, Switzerland, and Lisa Henry Vasquez (J), Bettendorf. Louise felt blessed to have many dear nieces and nephews; and her sisters-in-law, Mari-Ann Pesek (Mike), Swanton, Neb., Kathryn Eubank, Clinton, Ark., and Jeanine Eubank, Munster, Ind. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings, Ruth Eubank Noring, William Eubank, Harold Eubank and Harriet Eubank, who died in infancy. She joins them now in eternal peace.
