Henry Clayton Shumaker was b. 3 June 1923 (Birmingham, Marshall Co., KY, to Mark Shumaker and Sarah Lillie (Baker) Shumaker. On 1930 Census his resided in Birmingham, KY with his parents. On 1940 Census his resided in Birmingham, KY with his parents. On 3 March 1943 Henry enlisted into the US Army and performed in the Pacific Theather. He served in Guam, Philippines and other island areas. His favorite story was of his Army Unit regaining the beach head on the Phillippines. Due to newsreel publishing of MacArthur's giving up the Philippines, with the proclamation of "I Shall Return", Henry's Army unit after securing the beach head was instructed to move their camp and equipment back behind the palm tree lines. They were also required to sweep the beach head with palm tree branches to clean the beach of all footprints to allow news reels showing MacArthur reclaiming the beach, as he had proclaimed "I Shall Return". On 3 March 1945 after discharge from military service Henry married Lora Martine Elder born on 30 March 1951 his father passed and later on 3 September 1953 his mother passed, Henry continued his residence primarily in Marshall Co. KY. raising his family. After the passing of his wife Lora, Henry spent the remainder of his days in the home of his daughter Harriett Sue. Henry and Lora had 7 children: (i) Dianna Kay. (ii) Henry H Shumaker. Harriett Sue. (iv) Mark Clayton. (v) Ginnie Rae. (vi) W H. and (vii) Harold Dwayn. Throughout Henry's career he owned his own mussel boat as a teenager, he worked for Illinois Central Railroad, was a certified welder for Marine Ways, was a maintenance man for Proform Barge Top, and had several other vocations. He was a man of many talents.
Henry enjoyed hunting and fishing. During his family-man years he enjoyed teaching his sons the safe and proper way to hunt. Henry and his sons and grand-sons always enjoyed a find time of fishing and hunting. Henry is survived by grand - sons: Henry H Shumaker, Jr, Jeffery B Shumaker, granddaughter Pamela R Shumaker Worthen. and countless outher grand children.
