Knoxville Journal:
Doran Wayne Bacon, son of Giles D. and Ada Bacon, was born at Woden; Oct 14, 1925 and passed away, Dec. 10, 1949, at Mobile, Ala., at the age of 24 years, 1 month and 27 days.
He attended grammar school at Melcher. After finishing school he was employed by the Standard Oil Co., until he entered the service of the Merchant Marines.
Surviving are his father, four sisters, Mrs. Doris Godwin, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Gladys Williams, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Esther Spencer and Mrs. P.K. Long of Boone. Also four brothers, Herman of Melcher, Otis of Bakersfield, Calif., Giles Jr. of Woodward; and Garnet of Spartansburg, N.C. He was preceded in death by his mother, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m., at the Evans Funeral Home in Pleasantville, with Rev. Azel L. smith, officiating. Burial was in Swan cemetery.
