Dorothy Evelyn "Noozie" Green, age 85, of Gautier, MS, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 1:39 a.m. with her loving family at her bedside.
Dorothy was born July 13, 1928 in Gautier, MS, where she was raised by her loving parents Lee Jefferson Thomas and Annie Mae Parsley Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jack H. Green, her parents and a wonderful sister, Betty Lee Hudson.
She is survived by a son, Jack E. Green (Wanda) and a daughter, Shirley Ann Green Chelette; three grandchildren, who called her "Mo, " Jack E. "Eddie" Green, Jr. (Jenny), Steven Lee Green (Jennifer) and Stacey Lynn Lalley (A.J.); six great-grandchildren, Jordan, Alexander, Emily, Emma, Paige and Garrison; a sister, Marjorie "Woo-Woo" Thomas Vance (Ken); a brother, Douglas Michael Thomas; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Dorothy grew up next to the railroad tracks in Gautier and loved crabbing, fishing and picking blackberries. Many the time she cooked soft shell crabs for breakfast after her father had been floundering the night before. She excelled at sports and was on the Gautier basketball team that won the district championship in 1942. She loved being with family and friends, who called her "Noozie" and working in her church.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Pierre's Episcopal Church, 4412 Gautier-Vancleave Road, Gautier, MS 39553 on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Hunter Isaacs officiating. The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Southern Care Hospice for their love and support, especially Patricia Warren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Saint Pierre's Church or Southern Care Hospice.
