Dear Mr. Koch!
Thank you very much for your correspondence of 3 March. I had been traveling for two
weeks and found your letter when I returned yesterday. I shall answer it immediately.
In my book "The America-Emigration From The Saarburg District" I have found recorded the
emigrant Peter Koch, his wife Maria Staudt and the children with their birthdates.
The family at that time was living in Wehr, and this place belongs to the parish of
Palzem (not Peilzen).
In my book it states:
Continuing
Number
778 The day-laborer Peter Koch, 47 years old,
with his wife Maria Staudt, 40 years old,
and the children
Peter, born 29 Nov. 1841
Johann, born 14 May 1844
Michael, born 20 Dec. 1848
Mathias, born 5 Oct. 1851
Anna, born 5 May 1854
Elisabeth, born 18 March 1856
Wilhelm, born 12 March 1858
Johann, born 28 Sept. 1859
Heinrich, born 4 Sept. 1861

by way of (Le) Havre to North America.
"so that he might secure his future through earnings from a farm".
2 October 1862 3000 Talers
That's as far as the section from my book goes.

Peter Koch had at his disposal over 3,000 Talers available cash, that is 9,000 Marks and that was for that time a small fortune. The high amount of available cash proves the Peter Koch had auctioned off all his property before his departure.

The date 2 October 1862 is the date of the release document, preserved in the state archives in Koblenz. Koch also probably emigrated to the U.S.A. a short time later, but surely still in October. You now have the exact birthdates of the children of the Koch-Staudt marriage, and you also know the exact city of residence of the emigrant, namely Palzem.

It would make me very happy, if, on a trip to Germany, you would visit us here. I have already welcomed many Americans in my home. Unfortunately I do not speak your language, and that is a disadvantage. But right across from me lives a woman who understands English, so an understanding will be possible.

With the best greetings
from the old homeland
