John Ella Braden Ray was born on September 10, 1921 in the Campbell Station community to Josh and Tom Ella Martin Braden. Mother Ray was translated from earth to Glory June 25, 2013. She was educated in the Campbell Station school system.

She was united in matrimony to Mr. John Ray Jr. on December 24th, 1947.

Mother Ray professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Round Hill AME Church in Lynnville, TN, where she served until her adult years. She joined Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully for many years. After meeting Rev. and Sis. Rufus Crawford, she had a burning desire to join the Faith United Missionary Baptist Church where she worshiped with excitement and joy until her health failed.

Rising above in peace, resting in the arms of Jesus, she joins her parents, a sister and two brothers.
