Novelty Navy Flier Who Died In Plane Crash

Ensign Alvin Lee McGlothlin, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert McGlothlin of Novelty, lost his life in an aircraft crash off the coast near Eureka, Calif., July 6. He had been in the navy one year and was stationed at the Naval Base near San Diego, and was reported missing last week. He was a graduate of Missouri University, having received his Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering in June, 1956.

He was born on a farm in the Williamstown vicinity southeast of Brashear July 1, 1933. He became a member of the Christian Church in Novelty at the age of 14. For some time before entering the University of Missouri he was an active deacon in the church, and a letter from his pastor in San Diego told of his faithful service in that church.

Besides his parents, Albert D. and Hettie (Long) McGlothlin, he leaves a sister, Edra, Mrs. Waldo Gaines, of Leonard; a grandmother, Mrs. Lena Long, Hurdland; a niece, Walla Janice Gaines, an aunt and two uncles. Memorial services were in San Diego Sunday afternoon, July 14, and was attended by the parents.
