Florence Marie “Sis” Norman, age 83, of 118 W. Jewell Street, Munising, died early Thursday morning, January 4, 2007 at the Superior Health Haven in Munising under the care of Northwoods Hospice.

She was born on October 11, 1923 in Munising to Walfred “Bosco” and Esther (nee Nyman) Johnson.

Florence graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1941 and attended college at the University of Grand Rapids.

On September 21, 1942, she married Rodney William Norman. Florence was a homemaker and together they raised their five children. She also spent eight years as a secretary for the Sparta school system. Florence and Rod were members of the Sparta Baptist Church. In 1985, they moved to AuTrain and enjoyed their retirement together. They enjoyed their winters cross country skiing, and Florence was an avid reader. After they came home to Florence’s beloved U.P., they attended the Munising Baptist Church.

As a child, Florence enjoyed ice skating, swimming, and building shacks in the woods with her girlfriends. She would sit by the hill on W. Superior Street overlooking the Bay and say she was the luckiest girl in the world.

She is survived by her husband of over sixty-four years – Rodney Norman of Munising; their three daughters - Kathy (John) Barnhart of AuTrain, Nancy (Enoch) Jen of Hudsonville, MI, Vickie (Dave) Heocherl of Johannesburg, MI; their two sons – Bill (Marty) Norman of Grand Rapids and John (Marcella) Norman of Sao Paulo, Brazil; nine grandchildren - Laurel, Ivy, Bob, Bill, Kyle, Katie, Courtney, Shelby, and Mark Daniel; seven great-grandchilden; three nieces – Carol, Elaine, and Sharon; and brother-in-law – Milton Erlandson.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Elenore “Bee” Erlandson.

Visitation was held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 and also at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:00. Pastor Jason LaFlamme and Pastor John Arbogast conducted Florence’s funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
