Graveside services will be Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at 11 a.m., at Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside.
Stewart worked for Alabama Power in the Gorgas Steam Plant, until his retirement in 1977. He loved playing golf and walking. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jasper, since moving in 1967.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 81 years, Delora Minor Stewart; parents, James Girley Stewart and Elsie Awtrey Stewart; sisters, Euline Hamrick and Frances Dudley; brothers, Gilbert, John and Wilbur; and grandson, Christopher Songer.
He is survived by his daughters, Gail Songer and her husband, Bill, of Jasper, and Donna Turner and her husband, Bill, of Dadeville; grandchildren, Melinda Soderling (Kurt), Jonathan Songer, Lori Anne Scarborough (Zane), and Stewart Turner (Nikki); and eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Luca, Madison, Abigail, Turner, Lindy, Maycie and Gentry; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Jasper or the charity of your choice.
