Services will be held at !!:00 A, M. on Saturday January 29th, at the St. Mary Catholic Church, Marshalltown.
Visitation times are: 4:00 P. M. - 8:00 P. M. on Friday, January 28th at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory where his family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in Don's name to his family.

Donald Phillip Janssen was born on March 20, 1924 in Stuart, Iowa, the son of Phillip Bernard and Catherine Happe Janssen. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduation from the Stuart High School. During World War II he served as a pilot with the Army Air Force in the European Theatre. Following his discharge, he finished his education at Iowa State University as an engineer. On April 29, 1951, he was united in marriage to Katherine Hulsizer at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They lived in Cedar Falls where Don was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone for thirty years as district head of engineering for northeat Iowa. In 1979 his wife Katherine died and he retired from Bell. Later that same year he purchased Pentz Appliance in Marshalltown. On July 16, 1980 Don was untied in marriage to Caroline Fritz Thompson in Cedar Falls. He continued to operate his business until 1988, selling the business to his son Kevin, but continued to work there until the time of his death. Don was very active in community affairs while living in the Cedar Falls area. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, a former Cedar Falls City Councilman that was instrumental in developing the Downtown Parkade, past president of Northeast Iowa Council on Alcoholish, founding charter member and former board member of Beaver Hills Country Club, member of Cedarloo Sertoma and the Waterloo Elks Lodge. He was also a Telephone Pioneer, was honored in Whos Who in the Midwest in 1982, and was a current member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Don is survived by his wife: Caroline Janssen of Marshalltown, Son: Kevin (Pam) Janssen of Marshalltown; Daughter: Lynn (Greg) Van Brocklin of Cedar Falls; six stepchildren: Cynthia (Dennis) Jennings of Winona, MN; Jean (Jerry) Zellers of San Antonio, TX; Mary (Whit) Anderson of Chicago, IL; Christopher (Lucy) Thompson of Mexico City; Robert (Leann) Thompson of New Milford, Conn; Katie (Dan) Dunn of Bedford, MA; a brother Bill Janssen of Canon Falls, MN; two grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Katherine in 1979, and a sister Delores Janssen.
