Scott was in the Air Force for 6 years. While serving in Vietnam he was attached to the 773rd TAC ALFT Sqdn, 463rd TAC ALFT Wing, 7th AF.

A crew of 5 along with 18 passengers were killed when the Lockheed C-130 Hercules they were in crashed into Dong Nhut Mountain in poor weather conditions. The mountain was cloud covered and not visible. The craft was located 2 days later.
