Joan C. Philipbar (née McMurray), 79, of The Villages, FL, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Newark, NJ, Joan formerly resided in Belleville, Carteret and Parsippany, NJ, before moving to The Villages, FL after her retirement from Nabisco. She was the daughter of Doris and James McMurray, and was predeceased by her husband Carl. They were married for 51 years.
Joan was a loving mother and grandmother, and a friend to all. She is survived by her four children: Laura Norton, and her husband Richard, of Phillipsburg, NJ; Michael, of The Villages, FL; Diane Fetzer, and her husband Ken, of Lower Saucon Township, PA; and Lisa Holdsworth, and her husband Tom, of Sparta, NJ. She was the loving sister of Winifred Vitelli of Point Pleasant, NJ, and brother Robert McMurray of Wall Township, NJ. Joan was grandmother to Corey, Ashlee, Matthew, Kristi, Kandice, Shane, Justin, and great-grandmother to Jensen and Liam. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were private and held in The Villages, FL. Joan was laid to rest beside her husband at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Donations can be made in Joan Philipbar’s name to St. Jude’s Hospital.
