James Ignatius Bowes was born November 6,1876 in Omaha, Nebraska. His father, Stephen Bowes was a soldier and his mother, Anna Quigley Bowes, was a homemaker. James attended and graduated from Creighton University and was a member of Company D, 1st. Nebraska Volunteers serving in the Philippines during the Spanish American War.

James was a Cattle Buyer for the Cudahay Packing Company in Omaha,NE, Sioux City, IA, Wichita, KS and Kansas City, MO.

He married Elizabeth Moore in 1909, in Omaha, Nebraska. James and Elizabeth had 2 children, both boys, Norman Moore Bowes and Richard James Bowes.

James died on January 31, 1947 in Kansas City, Jackson County, MO, at the age of 71.
