"Abe" Ballard went by Clayton prior to the war, but afterwards went by the name 'Abe'. He was a proud confederate soldier that came home with nothing, and moved to Sullivan Co, TN. He married the sister (Sarah-aka Sallie Cox) of the Governor of TN, John Isaac Cox and they were pillars of their community. He was a farmer and spent the rest of his life in Sullivan County, TN.

Some info on his TN death certificate may be in error. TVA flooded several cemeteries and graves were moved and paperwork lost and the state had to replace death certificates. In addition there were 3 fires in Sullivan CO, which also resulted in a loss. The "informant" on the certificate is not known by anybody in 3 generations of descendants, so it is believed that the person was transferring data from what was left of available records.
