Another old post card showing the Chandler home at right.
Bricks from the demolished Chandler mansion were used to build the brick driveway and rear patio at the Joel Abbot Roberts home at 910 Government Street.

Joel A. Roberts and Florence Chandler Maybrick were 7th cousins, both lineal descendants of Col. Robert Pitt and Col. Joseph Bridger, heads of two "First Families of Virginia."

Some give William G. Chandler's name as Gaines, while others say George or Green(e). He had a nephew named William Gaines Chandler who is buried beside him. One newspaper gives his middle name as Henry.

Old post card showing the Chandler mansion, 256 Government Street, Mobile, which later became McGill Institute.

William G. Chandler was employed in business with the banking house of St. John, Powers & Co., with Newton St. John, a first cousin of Thomas St. John of Mobile who married Frances Ellen Gaines.
