Verne Paul DeAutremont was the first born child of Isabella Bertha née Wombacher and Paul DeAutremont. His parents moved the family many times and lived in Arkansas, Iowa, Colorado and New Mexico. His three middle brothers became notorious for a foiled train robbery that left four men dead. A U.S. Postal Service registered mail receipt for a letter sent to him from his younger brother Roy, found in the pocket of a garment left at the crime scene, is what helped convict his three brothers. It is believed that he followed in his fathers footsteps and was a barber by trade. Verne later ran a flying service at Salem Airport for many years until his retirement. His old hanger was moved and sits next to the main hanger at the Salem Air Center. (Bio by: Jay Lance)
