Ruby Christine Fairchilds, 85 year old Checotah resident, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on Saturday, April 12, 1930 to John and Mary (Sexton) Nichols in Carr Creek Community. Ruby grew up in Carr Creek and attended school at Pooltide until the 8th grade. She helped her parents work on the farm. In September 1948, she married Virgil “Nuke” Fairchilds in Van Buren, Arkansas and became a homemaker. Her and Nuke worked side-by-side on the farm raising 3 wonderful children. She loved fishing, crocheting, canning and cooking. Ruby always cooked big meals for her family when she was younger. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother, great cook, beautiful lady and an amazing best friend. She loved Blue Grass music, flowers and especially loved her grandchildren. She was a member of Harmony Free Will Church. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nuke Fairchilds on November 23, 2015; her brothers, Howard, Gay and Leon Nichols; her sisters, Irene Macom, Alene Largent, Doris Smith and Johnnie Carr. Service will be held Dec. 17 at 1:00 at First Baptist Church in Checotah.
