2009 obituary. PORTLAND -- Elizabeth 'Betty' McKague, 71, died on April 15, 2009, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born Aug. 2, 1937, in St. Albans, Vt., the daughter of Ralph E. and Hazel M. (Tracy) Moore and grew up in the beautiful mountains and community of Highgate Center, Vt. In 1955, the family moved to Peaks Island, where childhood memories were made. She graduated from Portland High School and worked for many years in the housekeeping department for the Eastland Hotel and at the Holiday Inn. Betty enjoyed knitting mittens and hats for her many nieces and nephews. She loved to visit with the neighbors and was a real 'people's person' who showed genuine interest in others and their well being. She enjoyed the company and companionship of her friend, George Dixon. Together, going out to play Bingo or just sightseeing around the city or getting an ice cream cone made for a perfect night out. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Forest City Cemetery, in Portland with the Rev. Kate Nicols, officiating.
