Timothy "Tim" Clayton Smith, 45, went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2015. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 16, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 17, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Corsicana. Burial will be in Grape Creek Cemetery.

Tim was born in Corsican, Texas, to Clayton and Dorothy Smith. He was a graduate of Midway High School in Hewitt. He attended Navarro College and McLennan County Community College. Tim earned his BBS in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University and worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice during that time.

Upon graduation from SHSU, he entered the Texas Department of Public Safety Academy in Austin, Texas, and graduated as a State Trooper. Tim faithfully and proudly served the State of Texas through the DPS for 21 years. He promoted through the ranks as a Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and finally a Major with the DPS. Tim attended many training schools during his career including the Northwestern University Traffic Institute. He was currently serving as a Major in the Emergency Management Division of the Department of Public Safety.

Tim loved to watch his kids play sports and was completely satisfied behind the wheel of a tractor on the pastures that his grandfather and father plowed before him. He loved his profession with a passion and loved his law enforcement family.

Survivors include his wife, Julie; sons, Jared and Braden Smith; daughter, MacKenzie Smith; his parents, Clayton and Dorothy Smith; sisters: Cindy McCary and husband, Mike, Sherri Warner and husband, Paul, and Susan Steen and husband, Steven; nieces, Emily Gentry and husband, Brad, Madison, Mallory, and Miley Steen; nephews, Drew McCary, Josh Warner and wife, Andie, and Tyler Warner and wife, Cari; great-nephews, Jack Gentry and Luke Warner; great-niece, Annabelle Gentry; mother and father-in-law, Jerry and Norma Pickens; other relatives and many friends.
