Sophie Mickel, 97, of DePue died Dec. 15, 2015, in Heritage Health, Peru.
Prayers will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Barto Funeral Home, DePue, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, DePue. The Rev. Kevin Creegan will officiate. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Spring Valley.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday in the funeral home.
Sophie was born Sept. 25, 1918, in DePue to Leo and Lena Jarszewski Hypki. She married John Mickel on Oct. 21, 1939, at St. Mary Church in DePue. John died May 3, 2001. Sophie was a member of St. Mary Church in DePue, DePue Booster Club, DePue Citizen's League and Lake DePue Preservation Association.
Survivors include one daughter, Georgian (Keith) Dean of Enfield, Conn.; eight grandchildren, Eric, David, Kimberly, Vicki, Doug, Craig, Daniel and Nicole; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Sophie was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Jeanette and Karen; a son, James; two sisters, Irene and Cecelia; and a brother, Leo.
