David Bradshaw Vietnam War Victim Rites To Be Friday

A Chelsea soldier — David Alford Bradshaw — serving in Vietnam was killed Thursday when the vehicle in which he was riding struck a land mine News of his death reached Chelsea early Saturday morning.

Bradshaw who was 20 years old vas the fourth Chelsea man to lose his life in Vietnam. Also killed in Vietnam have been Sgt David Lee Hubbard Joseph Thomas Barbee George Brian Allison and Sgt Aaron Hartness. Bradshaw and five other Americans were killed as they were riding from an airfield to their unit after completion of a mission when the vehicle hit the mine. A specialist 4 Bradshaw was serving with Company A 1st Battalion 5th Mechanized Infantry 25 division of the army.

The soldier had returned to duty the preceding Monday November 11 after spending a five days rest and recreation leave in Honolulu with his wife. The R & R leave came after he had been in Vietnam six months He entered the army in November 1987.

Member of families who have resided for many years in Rogers county Bradshaw was born in Claremore August 2 1948 the son of Alford and Audrey Casey Bradshaw He grew up in Chelsea community attended Waller school and then entered -Chelsea high school graduating in 1967 He distinguished himself as a basketball player in both grade and high school and in his junior year won all-conference honors He was active in the Future Farmers Of America and prominent in student activities.

Following graduation Bradshaw was employed by a construction firm before entering the army The soldier was a member of Wlnganon Baptist church He and his school day sweetheart Elizabeth Lenore Johnston were married August 11 1987.

Surviving is the widow his parents four brothers Bill Bradshaw of Oologah

Dan Bradshaw of Claremore Larry and Jerry Bradshaw of the home and three sisters Sarah Higeons of Collinsville, Connie Stritzke of South Coffeyville and Ahniwake McCamish Claremore.

The body arrived in Chelsea at midnight Wednesday So through Thursday and Friday Chelsea flags are to fly at half-mast.

Funeral services are to be conducted at 2:30 Friday afternoon in the First Baptist church by the pastor the Rev James A Kent and the Rev Ray Collins pastor of Winganon church.

Music will be presented by Denny Hull organist Mrs Jim Hayes Mrs Ray Collins and Mrs Howard Slocter who will sing "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend"

Soldiers from Fort Sill will serve as casket-bearers and an honor guard. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery at Claremore under direction of Paul Merriott Funeral Service.
