Death of William Stewart
Uncle Billy Stewart died Feb. 9, 1899, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of his son George near Morris Chapel 8 miles west of this city. Old age was the cause of his death as he suffered of no special disease. His human machinery simply wore out. He was born in Derry county, Ireland, in 1812. Came to America in 1833 and to Missouri in 1856. Was married in Elizabeth Leslie in 1847. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on last Friday conducted by Rev. Lee. Burial took place in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in this city. He leaves eight children as follows—Robert, George and Andrew Stewart, Mrs. Geo. Sickal, Mrs. W. C. Chick, Mrs. J. W. Ray, Mrs. Wm. Stone, Mrs. Wm. West. All live in this county except the two last named. Mrs. Stone living in Iowa and Mrs. West in Nebraska. Uncle Billy was a stone mason by trade. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and a good man.
