Amparo Sally Day, age 91, passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home in Cathedral City, CA on Sunday, December 6, 2015 surrounded by her children. Born January 29, 1924, in Barstow, CA, she was the third of sixteen children born to Mercedes and Felix Aguayo. Married to a career Marine, she lived in multiple locations throughout the United States and Okinawa, Japan, before settling in the Palm Springs area for the past 29 years. Amparo was a longtime volunteer of assistance agencies supporting military families as well as a passionate gardener and creative multimedia crafter. Yet her true calling was keeper of the family hearth and spousal supporter of a Marine whose distinguished career spanned 43 years. She is survived by her daughter Gayle M. Day, sons James A. Day and Matthew D. Day, and daughter-in-law, Donna M. Day. Additionally, she leaves a legacy of 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Amparo was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Major General James L. Day and eldest son, William K. Day. Family is greatly appreciative of her son Matthew's loving care of her throughout a trying period preceding her death; Matt, we are forever indebted to your selfless commitment and display of familial obligation.
