"Wilkes Burgoyne, one of the most popular miners of Tomichi, died last Saturday morning of pneumonia, after a short illness. Mr. Burgoyne was a man of about 40 years of age, a genial, companionable gentleman, and had a host of warm friends in Tomichi. He was buried in the cemetery on Sunday, the funeral being one of the largest ever held in the gulch. Dr. Collins had charge of the case."
