Willy was the son of Peter and Maria (Berg) Weiler. He was born in Niedermendig Germany. He never married.

He was one of 11 children. His siblings were: Elisabeth, Peter, Maria Magdalena, Therese, Katharina Moll, August, Johann "Jean", Wilhelm Friedrich, Elisabeth Schulte, Friedrich, and Anna Maria Aust.

Willy studied Clarinet at a conservatory in Blankenburg, Germany. He later joined the German Military, and was a member of one of their bands. The band he was in played at funerals and other military events.

Unfortunately, Willy's band got caught in a conflict during WWI and he, as well as many or all his band mates were killed.

In January 2018, Mendig resident Joerg Weber located an old German government listing of German soldiers who were killed or wounded that was dated March 3, 1915. On page 5088 there is a listing which is believed to be the report of Willy's death, which occurred at the 10th field hospital (Feldlazarett) of the 7th (German) Army Corps, where Willy died on September 23, 1914, from wounds he received. The entry indicates Willy was a member of the I. Pionier-Bataillon Nr. 7, 2. Feld-Compagnie (First Pioneer Battalion, Number 7 - Second Field Company). Then exact entry on the list is as follows:

"Pion. Wilhelm Weiler - Niedermendig, Mayen - (cross symbol) an seinen Munden Feldlaz. 10 des VD. A. K. 23.9.14."
