Mary Anne Edwards, aged 75, died on December 19, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hospital, after a brief struggle with cancer. Mary Anne was born August 11, 1940, in Selma, Alabama, the daughter of Robert Bernard Willingham and Rosa Inez Willingham.

Mary Anne was an avid gardener. Even as a child in Selma, she requested of her mom a flower bed in which to work and raise flowers. She continued to enjoy gardening throughout her life. Mary Anne graduated from R.B. Hudson High School in Selma, AL and attended Judson College in Marion, AL, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Education in 1962.

In 1965, Mary Anne married the love of her life Reuben Olander Edwards, and they built their first and only home in Pensacola, Florida. Reuben was an engineer at Monsanto Chemical for over 25 years.

Mary Anne loved travelling; was a voracious reader; a talented artist; fond of Turner Classic Movies; a lover of history; a gardener; a lifelong teacher; a devoted and faithful friend. She often recited poems from memory learned in childhood. Later in life, she enjoyed trips to visit the archaeological sites of Egypt; the Spanish colonial town of Oaxaca, Mexico; the bustling metropolis of Tokyo and the quiet coastal town of Mito, Japan. She was very health conscious, walking 3 miles daily with her beloved dog Blue.

In addition to being a devoted mother of two boys, she was a respected and revered elementary school teacher and proponent for the education of children and adults. While being a full-time mom and teacher, she earned a Master Degree in Education from the University of West Florida. Mary Anne's true talent and gift was inspiring children to learn. During her 53 year career teaching elementary school, she left a positive, indelible imprint on the lives of over 1200 children.

In 2002 she was recognized for 40 years of service as a public school teacher, the longest tenure in the county. She was an institution as Ferry Pass Elementary, teaching 46 of her 53 years there, and will be sorely missed by her colleagues.

Mary Anne was preceded in death by husband Reuben Edwards and brother Richard Willingham. Mary Anne is survived by her sons, Keith Edwards of Austin Texas and Michael Edwards of Shreveport, LA; 3 grandchildren; 3 nieces and 1 nephew; and a number of dear and close friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway 90E, Pensacola, FL 32503. A memorial service honoring Mary Anne will follow at 3:00pm.

Following the service, a reception will be held in her honor at her beautiful home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to The Pensacola Lions Club.
