Our loving mother, Ruth, was born on October 3, 1921 in Bayshore, Long Island. She was 87 years old when she died on July 19, 2009, and passed into God's loving light. Ruth lived and worked in San Francisco most of her life. San Francisco is where she raised her family of five boys as a single mother in the 1950's, working at various jobs to make ends meet. Most notably, she worked as a telephone operator for 15 years at the prestigious law firm of Heller, Ehrman, White, and McAulif. She was then employed at L.F. Rothchild, a brokerage firm, where she retired from big city life and move to Sonora, CA with her husband, Stanley Budesa, a retired long shoreman. They lived happily in Sonora for 30 years. While living in Sonora, Ruthie, as she was affectionately called, worked for Mother Lode Answering Service for 15 years, and then joined Sonora Internal Medicine, where after several years she finally retired with much fanfare and celebration. All in all she had worked for over sixty years. Ruthie had a generous heart, and was always there to lend a helping hand. She was a mother figure to so many always inviting people to her home who had no place to go for the holidays; her "Orphans", she called them. Her home was open to all, and she received her guests with warmth and great joy. Ruth loved people, her animals, and loved to have fun. She enjoyed entertaining, and was a great cook. These talents where always shared with family and her dear friends. She loved her garden, enjoyed music, and dancing. She had a marvelous sense of humor, coupled with great taste and personal style. She always looked lovely, and kept a beautiful home. As a result, in 1962 she was nominated "San Francisco Lady Fair", which awarded a trip to Pairs, and a fabulous Oleg Cassini wardrobe. Ruth was a parishioner at All Saints Catholic church in Twain Harte for many years where she was eventually baptized. More recently she became a parishioner at Saint Patrick's Church in Sonora. Her church and faith gave her much strength and comfort in life.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Engle Wright-Combs, her father Robert Burchell Combs, her brother Kenneth Burchell Combs, and her husband, Stanley Marion Budesa. She is survived by her five sons, 14 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, and many loving and caring friends. She was very proud of her family, and will always be remembered by the people her life touched.
