Jimmy graduated from Hutto High School in 1951, and worked the family farm until he went into the U.S. Army in 1954. He served as a gun crewman in Long Island, New York when he was in the service.
While he attended the Hutto High School he met his wife, Eileen Perrin and later married her in 1955 at the Hutto Baptist Church in Hutto Texas.
In 1963 they moved to Thorndale, where he worked at Alcoa, as a tapper carbon changer until he retired in Aug 1993.
Jimmy received a Senate proclamation upon retirement speaking to his professionalism, loyalty, dependability, exemplary conduct, and for his inspiration to others.
He also served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Thorndale until 2013, when they moved to Hutto.
Survivors are his wife, Joycelyn Eileen Melton; his children, Jim Melton Jr. and wife Kay of Amarillo, Glen Melton and wife Vicki, Joey Melton Sr. and wife Sharon, Bret Melton and wife Eva, Chris Melton and wife Lori, all of Hutto; his grandchildren, Shane Melton of Keene, Leah Melton of Hutto, Kallie Hubnik and husband Brian of Cameron, TJ Barclay Jr. of Amarillo, Tabatha Davis and husband David of Happy, Derik Melton and wife Brittney of Houston, Janeane Melton of Hutto, Joey Melton Jr. and wife Jessica of Schulenburg, Juanda Reyes and husband Kris of Hutto, Joleen Cowdry and husband James of Lampasas, Devon Melton and wife Nicole of Taylor, Brittany Lane and husband Chris of Buda, JaNett Hill and husband Eric of Georgetown, Micah Melton and Kassi Melton, both of Hutto; and his siblings, Geneva Barnes and husband Bubba of Hutto, D.R. Melton and wife Sheila of Fentress, J.L. Melton of Rice’s Crossing; also, 19 great-grandchildren.
Services for Jimmy was held at 2PM on December 11th 2015 at First Baptist Church in Taylor, TX 76574 with Graveside services to follow at Hutto City Cemetery.
