Joseph Allen, III was the son of Joseph Allen, Jr. and Jane Riddle. Rev. James Snodgrass married Joseph Allen to Eleanor McEwen, the daughter of John McEwen and Eleanor J McCullough, on 6 May 1794 in Dauphine Co., PA.

Joseph III's grave has a REVOLUTIONARY WAR metal beside it, in the 2006 & 2020 photos. He was born 25 Jan 1769. The war took place between 19 Apr 1775 and 3 Sep 1783. Joseph was 6 years 2 months 25 days at the beginning of the war and 14 years 7 months 9 days at the end. The earliest age requirement was 18. He wouldn't be the first patriot to serve younger than the required age. I suspect it would have belonged to his father who is documented buried here but is without a grave marker. Seek more details.

William Henry Egle's Pennsylvania Genealogies, p 10 says he was born in Hanover Township (which was then in Lancaster Co., PA) a Major in unlisted service. Possibly it was the War of 1812. He was also a contributor and member of the Old Hanover Church from 1795 until 1839.
